Büla, Christophe, MD
Dr. Büla is full professor of geriatric medicine at the Faculty of Biology and Medicine, University of Lausanne and medical director of the Service of Geriatric Medicine and Geriatric Rehabilitation at the University of Lausanne Medical Center (CHUV). He represents Switzerland at the Geriatric section of the European Union of Medical Specialists (EUMS). He was recently appointed by the Ministry of Health to chair the expert committee who wrote the health policy for elderly care in the state of Vaud and currently supervises its state-wide implementation.
His main research interests focus on the prevention of functional decline in elderly persons, and cover the study of geriatric assessment and models of healthcare delivery, as well as the study of geriatric syndromes such as dementia, falls and mobility impairment. He is also co-investigator and member of the scientific board of the Lausanne cohort 65+, a cohort study launched in 2004 to study the determinants of transition to frailty in community-dwelling older persons living in the city of Lausanne, Switzerland.
