Katarzyna Szczerbinska, MD, PhD
Associate Professor of Geriatrics and Head of the Unit for Research on Ageing Society at Chair of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, at Medical Faculty at the Jagiellonian University Medical College in Kraków, Poland (www.uj.edu.pl). A specialist in geriatric medicine with long practice experience in nursing homes and expertise in public health (organization of long-term care, health promotion and quality of care assurance for older people). Expert at the Ministry of Health for elaboration of geriatric care standards (since 2007).
Member of Experts’ Committee for Older People at Ombudsman Council. Vice president of the Association of Polish Geriatricians, which belongs to EUGMS (since 2013), and member of the Polish Society of Gerontology. Since 2004 Fellow of InterRAI (representative for Poland). Since 2008 member of InterRAI ISD.Participated in 13 international cooperation projects, in 8 of them as leader (IP) of the Polish team. The purpose of these projects was either educational (Tempus JEP, Tempus JEN, Leonardo da Vinci), research and development (ComPro, CHANGE), or scientific research (BIOMED2-COPE 5th FP; CLESA 5thFP; PREDICT 7thFP; PACE 7thFP; EUNESE-European Public Health Programme; SPRINTT IMI project). All the projects she took part in dealt with problems of the quality of care and the quality of life of older people and their care-givers.
