Halldór Kolbeinsson, MD
Head of Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Associate Professor
Dr. Kolbeinsson is chief of rehabilitation at Mental Health Services, the National University Hospital of Iceland, and clinical associate professor of psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine within the School of Health Sciences at the University of Iceland. He earned his medical degree from the University of Iceland. He is licensed in general practice and as a specialist in psychiatry in Iceland.
Dr. Kolbeinsson holds memberships in various professional societies: the Icelandic Medical Association, Societas Gerontologica Islandica, Icelandic Geriatrics Society, the Association of European Psychiatrists, the Scandinavian College of Neuro-Psychopharmacology, the American Psychiatric Association (international member), and the International Psychogeriatric Association. His focus of research activities includes studies in the fields of clinical psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry and he is a qualified referee for a journal in psychiatry. Since 1999, he has been an active participant in the development of the interRAI in Iceland. He is participating in the steering committee of the interRAI project at Mental Health Services, Landspítali — The National University Hospital of Iceland. The committee is currently involved in activating the interRAI Emergency Screener for Psychiatry (ESP) and interRAI Community Mental Health (CMH) instruments in the Mental Health Services in Iceland. Halldór Kolbeinsson has been an interRAI Associate Fellow since 2009.
